Take three test tube and number them. Place a small amount of calcium chloride in the first test tube to dry the air. Fill the second test tube completely with boiled water which from dissolved oxygen has been completely driven out by boiling. Pour small amount of water in the third test tube. Now put 3 to 4 small iron nails in each test tube. Plug the mouth of all the three test tubes. After three days you will find that the nails in the first and second test tubes are free from rust, while those in the third test tube have rusted. The activity shows that for rusting to take place, both air (oxygen) and water are essential.
