It is method of concentration of an are used when the ore is magnetic but gangue is non-magnetic iron ore or the ore is non-magnetic but gangue is magnetic. The principal of the process of magnetic separation can be viewed here. The ore is passed over a conveyor belt that runs over two rollers. One of which is magnetic. The non-magnetic particle is drop down first due to gravity. The magnetic particle adhere to the belt for a little longer time and drop down a little later. Thus the ore and gangue get separated into different heap away from each other.
